Flex Exhaust hose

Recently installed 496 exhaust on my 454 magnum. The risers are out of alignment with thru transom tips by about 2 inches. I have about 16 inches of hose between the risers and tips. Can the Trident flex hose be used in this situation and not burn through

Be careful not to have too much down angle at the riser. If there isn't enough clearance between the inside top of the hose and the top of the riser exhaust flare it will create a water shadow that will burn the hose.

Thanks, that is exactly what happened with the stock hose. I am wondering if I can bend the flex hose to the shape I need and have it stay that way.

it doesn't like to bend. i have a kink in mine from down-angle of stock risers to up-angle of platform. thinking of fabbing wedges to change angle of tips to reduce the differance.

I actually had to bend the top of the riser bell slightly to gain enough inside clearance when I replaced a 454 with a 496. Better than drilling new transom holes.

I use a 1 foot polished stainless steel tube with a Trident XHT bellows on each end rather than all hose.

i fixed this same issue with a piece of 4" stainless tubing, cut angles on the ends to match the offset from risers to tips, made it 1/8" shorter than total length and used the hose as a coupling, this was done on a 454 w/ dana exhaust and it worked perfect and looked, sounded better as well

so you basically made an elbow by cutting ends on a diagonal and put hoses on at that angle? sounds doable.

Problem solved, I fabricated and Tig welded these up out of aluminum tube we had laying around at work.

watch out dude! you could find yourself making boat exhaust tubes for a living!! stainless would live longer. you know that judging by those welds. but you are in michigan. not salt.
