gen 6 oil temp and oil pressure sender locations.....
Working on my gen 6 502. It has a port above the filter pad and one on the top of the block at the back (behind the distributor) that's smaller (I believe 1/4"). I have my oil temp sender in the top port and my oil pressure sender in the port above the filter pad. Are these ok locations for the senders or should I switch them. I also have a hp6 remote filter head that has a small port in it that I could put the oil temp sender in if that might be a better spot. Any thoughts on this ??? Thanks, Mark

You want the temp from the pan or remote head.
Thousands of articles on this. Mine are in my remote filters. I just monitor for changes, mine will get up to 220 and stay there. If I would see 240 I would start looking for the cause. |
Leave the temp sender in the side of the block where it is. It's in the flow of oil as opposed to a dead end passage where there could be stagnate oil. It's reading the temp of the oil that the engine is seeing. If you put it in the pan or before the cooler, you are taking the cooler out of the equation. If you have a large, efficient cooler vs.a smaller, not so efficient one, the temps that the engine is seeing could vary greatly. In a Gen VI, the best place is just above the filter pad. The upper port above the bell housing is fine for the pressure sender. If you port is the filter housing is after the filter, then that is ok as well. You don't want it before the filter. Again, you want to know what the engine is seeing. Some GenVI blocks, not all, have a 1/4"NPT port at the front, left of the block just above the pan rail. You could go there also with the pressure sender if you have that port.
