Speedometer Stopped Working
I was going about 70 mph and was raising the trim slightly up, and then out of no where, my speedometer just stopped working. It shows 0 mph now. I have a Bravo 1 Outdrive. The boat is a 2005 Stingray 230sx with a 496 magnum.
What is the first thing that I should check for? Thanks so much!! |
Water pick up type speedo?
There is a small hole on the leading edge on the drive, and if you hit a stick or something, you could have some wood or other trash lodged in the hole. |
Thanks for the reply. My drive has a "low water pickup" with a couple holes on the leading edge of the lower unit. Do you those are the speedo holes that might be clogged?
|
There is only 1 hole for speedo pickup. It's approx 1/8" dia. on the leading edge. Usually you can take a small drill bit and turn it by hand to clean out the wood chip.

Probably not a clog. Raise your drive all the way up while on land. Stick your head behind the drive and check on the top cavitation plate just behind the horseshoe zinc that should be there. There is a plastic fitting going to the lower unit water pickup attached to a small water line that goes up through your transom. It tends to pop out of the drive after trimming up too far. Push it back in and twist a quarter turn. Happens to mine all the time.

WOOHOO!!!
Found the little black tube disconnected from the lower unit like NightHawk suggested. Such a simple fix but I would have never known without you! THANKS A MILLION!!!!!!!!!!! |
