Use a riser gasket sealer or nothing?

Hello, getting ready to bolt my risers onto the exhaust manifolds. 350 small blocks, cast iron mercruiser manifolds and cast iron risers. Does any gasket sealant go on them or just the gaskets themselves? 3" elbows, no steel plates between the risers and manifolds.

The "new" graphite gaskets do not use sealer.

I'm sure everyone is going to say no but I have done it on every exhaust install I have ever done. Just a thin smear.

i agree with effin. especially when the risers and-or the mans are not new. it is easy to use too much and fill water passages. thin smear.

IT may or may not hurt the graphite technology. I go with what the people who engineered the gasket say.
