Oil recommendations- no flaming please
Engine builder wants me to use straight 30w (dino oil) in my engines? Which do you folks recommend?

My builder told me straight 40. I use NAPA with the gold filters.
|
Powerplay- I got the wix filters , I just don't know if I should use Rotella t1, or Delvac or a straight 30w Penzoil. The Merc oil is sythetic so 25w-40 so I could use that.
Are you saying use Napa 30w oil? Wannabe |
Mobil delvac super 1300 15w40 Made for Diesel / super charged or turbo gas engines.
|
Rockfish- I have roller cams - that Delvac is good to use? My temps run low no thermostats in the engines.

Ask your builder. Mine told me to use the napa 40. No synthetic. A few of my buddies have bigger power than me and it's all we use.
|
Napa 30w it is - actually it's Valvoline 30 too.

Good deal! Maybe see ya out this summer?

Factory recommended straight 40w. I ran Mobil 15-50 in my Stinger. Zero measurable wear after 350 hours.

If your engine builder said to use straight 30, why would you even dream of using something else ??????? As far as brand goes, I would ask him which he prefers and use that without question. Just my opinion, Bill Koustenis Advanced Automotive Machine Waldorf Md |

My 2 cents! I have reading these oil posts for many years, what I have gleaned is multi grades gives pressure a tad quicker and has good cling due to the polymers. Dino is better for break in syn is to slick, being so slick rollers can stick and develop flat spots also it takes longer for rings to seat. On my builds I do run straight dino for the first 5 then 10 then 25 hour changes, then I switch to 20-50 at 75 hours I go over to syn. I have been running Spectro 20-50 since, but the Merc syn has been doing fine for many.

I live in TX, hot weather, and hot water, often wondered how muck that impact oil,
Not sure where you live But that may need to be brought into factor. |
