Starting issues with Merc 900SC's
Are there anyone running merc 900SC's that have had a starting problem? I have sparatic issues with only one engine starting. Sometimes I have to pump the throttle and hold wide open until motor fires. Once the engine starts it runs fine. I am running mechanical fuel pumps and fuel pressure is about 8-9 #'s. I have checked fuel flow and spark is very good, does anyone have any suggestions on what would cause this problem? I appreciate any suggestions.

have you replaced spark plugs lately?

Curious, what kind of speeds are you getting with the 900 mercs in your 38 fever? What drives do you have???
As for the starting issue, how long since cap and rotor been changed? Plugs? Have you tried cleaning/blowing out the air bleeds in the carbs? Most merc setups ran the breather vent tubes to the flame arrestors. I've dealt with dirty/clogged air bleeds due to oil film and junk clogging them up. Engines were very hard to start and keep running at idle when the bleeds were clogged up. |
First question has to be, cold start or hot restart? Big difference in where the issue could lie.

Fuel pressure is on the high side . I would check the needle & seats in the carbs . sounds like it is flooding it self, blowing past the needle & seat. just my .02
