Wheel bearing grease removal....
I need to repack my trailer wheel bearings. I would like to remove as much of the original grease from the bearings and repack with higher temp synthetic grease. Question is what is the best solvent to use ?? I am at home and have air to dry them out with. I have some pans I can fill with what solvent ????
Thanks !!! Smitty |
we use break cleaner

Used gas ever since I was old enough to work on cars some 30 yrs ago. Always gas sitting around.

Paint thinner works well also.

How do you get the bearing buddys off?
|
tap with a hard plastic hammer as you spin the wheel

Your over thinking it,just put the new **** in. Wont be a problem as long as the bearings have lube

I use mineral spirits and a small paint brush cut short to poke and clean them out. Then use air hose to blow them dry into a empty case of beer box.
A very mild solvent that doesn't small so bad on the hands later. |
+1 on the gas. That is how I've always done it.
