the ign module inside the dist. that reads off the rotor spinning......its looking like a coil maybe
|
Ok, that's what I thought. That module does not "see" the coil. It's job is to trigger the igntion amplifier which actually drives the coil.
I'm not saying you don't have a bad coil but it should not hurt that module. The amplifier module is another story. Try that test i described earlier, it will at least narrow it down a bit. If you ground the g/w wire and do get a spark then for sure the trigger module is bad. |
mbam. do i put the new ign module in then to do that test?
|
No, this is actually a short cut to see if the ign amp, coil and primary ignition circut are all good. The distributor module is disconnected for this test.
If there IS spark then you know those 3 are good and the module is bad. If there IS NO spark then you have to dig further as you don't know what is bad. What drive do you have? |

mbam, so disconnect the green and white wire from the ign module and hold it to ground with the key on? and dissconect my coil wire from the coil and see if it will spark?
|
Just wanted to make sure you didnt have an Alpha with shift switch problems.
Yes, the g/w coming from the ign amp - take it off the module and touch it to ground with the power on. And pull the coil wire out of the distributor and put it where you can see a spark. Again - no gas or fumes present!! |
thanks marc
