Alternator and wiring questions

Hey all

Quick question on alternator wiring. I am replacing an old Mando alternator on starboard motor with a Delco marine 1 wire 105 amp- Port motor already has a Delco

Is it ok to completely sep the charging systems to each battery. My switches are connected in the fashion that many boats are.

2 engines-2 batteries-2 alternators-2 switches.......so essentially what I am shooting for is a battery and alternator on each motor alone. I can add a 2nd battery later to each side if needed.

Im usually aware of my power drains, etc etc.

Any suggestions appreciated.

It's easy to add a second battery. Pick up a couple of these and follow the wiring diagrams. This way you will not cook your alternators. http://bluesea.com/products/7650

I have a dual switch on each engine, the benefits of that kit is to connect for emergency starts ? If I put a single engine on dual batteries connected to one alternator/then move my switch to 1 or 2 after I start.....wouldnt this accomplish same thing by allowing alternator to do its job.
