oil droplets in exhaust
Have 500 EFI that has unburned oil comming out of exhaust, leaves one hell of oil sheen in water and when put a cup under exhaust tips it gets a lot of little oil droplets in cup. Runs good, good pressurs, no water in oil. Im thinking oil cooler but would like some input before start testing and replacing it. Thanks

YUP. Almost for certain if the engine is running well. For unburned oil to get through the engine otherwise is almost impossible.

Just to double check and save sometimes buying an expensive oil cooler if not needed.
One of two tests can be done: 1. Remove the cooler and pressure test it with air thru the oil fittings. 2. Remove the two oil inlet and outlet lines and temporarily couple them together and run the engine under idle or light load and check for oil in exhaust appearance again. Best Regards, Ray @ Raylar |
thanks for replys, but oh boy how do i get to the damn thing i have no room. Whats best way to get to it, it is behind the motor and i have no room. Take exhaust off, plenum off? Need ideas from those that have done it. Thanks

On that boat its really crowded back there behind the HP500efi where the oil cooler is mounted. Can you reach the two oil hose ends on the cooler, disconnect them and rig a jumper between the two hoses so you can check to see if oil leakage froma bad cooler stops before you go pulling the entire cooler out? Obviously this is just occuring on one engine correct?

Would it be easier to unbolt the sunpad and get it from the rear of the boat instead of laying over the engines?
