Pressure gauge help/drive help
 

I have a 1998 29 scarab. I had new livorsi gauges installed. My one pressure gauge does not work. Where does this line goto? I'm guessing it's clogged. But I don't know where to find it to diagnose

Secondly. This boat is new to me. I noticed one of the drive resivors was empty. So I filled it. It pussed it all out of the top and is now sitting at the low mark? What would. Cause this?? I also have a crazy tach what would cause that. And lastly my new fuel gauge doesn't work no idea if the old one did. How do you diagnose that

Water psi gauge hose is either plumbed into the intake manifold or into one of the block drains. The ones plumbed into block drains will clog easily and frequently.

If the drive reservoir was empty, you have leak somewhere. If it puked out when running, there was either an air bubble in the drive(from it being low) and it got hot causing expansion.

Does the fuel gauge needle move at all???? The sender may need adjusted or may not be the correct one.

Adam, as drives are rather expensive and take less than three quarts of lube to refill why not drain that drive and refill the lube (pump from the bottom plug until it runs out the top plug. Then refill the bottle in your bilge to almost the full point,or maybe just half way. Run the boat once or twice and monitor the fluid level and top it off. It would be worth the $40 to know everything was filled properly. You could also have the old drive oil analyzed if you have concerns. Sorry I don't know squat about your gauge issues...

I've always had someone work on my boats. Until now I want to do things myself so I know what was exactly done and what I learned from it. I keep the boat in the water. Obviously I remove the boat and take it back to my shop. Then I imagine you lower the drives. Then how do you drain? How do you fill. ?? Please help

Adam, send me your email address and I will attach a tech sheet for you. On a scale of 1-5 this is a one. If you can change the oil in your car you can change your lower unit oil. You will need a pump to pump the gear oil out the of 1 quart bottles. You will need 3 quarts per drive. Some folks suggest 4 quarts so you can flush 1/2 a quart or so through the drive. I would think that would make a huge mess but not a bad idea. MerCruiser high performance gear oil is about $13 per quart.
