Beehive Valve Springs
I'm building a Vortec headed small block, XM 270 HR camshaft.
Has anybody used Beehive springs with a setup like this? What brand was used, any issues?
Thanks in advance!

I'm not answering your question directly but I remember reading that the valve guide hight on these heads needs to be cut down /modified for anything over a .480 lift. I would think Comp Cams or Crane would have the springs you need. All they need to know is installed height and open and closed pressure needed.

FYI I used that cam in a brand new marine engine with RHS Vortec heads and Howard Cams springs. The engine made 350 hp's on the dyno fully dressed incl. iron manifolds and elbows. Aim for 31 degrees full advance on ignition.
I have no experience in using beheeive springs.

I used comp cam beehives on my vortec 350. I can't remember the part number, but the reason I used them was the max lift on the stock head was like .48 and I was going to run the lt4 hot cam with 1.6:1 rockers and lift was .525. The beehives with the thinner retainer brought max lift up to something like .54. No maching required. On top of that the single wound ovate coil is suppose to lessen harmonics and increase horsepower. I also used screw in studs.

If the heads are stock 6.2s they are not going to flow over about .480 lift or so I've been told.
Mr. Maine, if I read your post correctly you stated that with the beehive springs and retainers you got around the valve guide clearance issues with the stock Vortex heads and cams over .480 lift w/o machining the guides? What about pushrod clearance with the 1.60 ratio rocker arms?
