Name this engine please
Ive been looking at a 2004 commander 26' signature and the owner thinks it has a 454 in it but by looking at the pics to me its a 500EFI. But i dont know much other than comparing pics on google seaches etc
Here are the pics. i highly doubt its a 454 http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...04456970_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...44057660_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...63091043_n.jpg |
i would say it is a 454 or a 502. Almost all the 525's I have ever seen have been blue.

John jr The 500 and 525s have the filter straight off the intake like the one im looking at. I know you can swap and mis match intakes but it looks like a 500 or 525 with polished intake Here is a 525 http://www.mercuryracing.com/blog/wp...ercury-525.jpg Here is a pic of a 500efi http://media.channelblade.com/boat_g...gi35557408.jpg Here is a 502 http://images.craigslist.org/5Q35K25...0180801723.jpg Here is a 454 http://www.tanglewoodmarine.com/part...454/454mag.jpg |
Look at the block #. That will tell you about the block at least. Looking at the intake doesn't tell you a damn thing, except which intake is on it :)
You can then look at the head #'s for some more info, but the block # is easy to see all the time, just peek around back. EDIT: Here http://www.fastnuf.com/bbccastingnumbers.html |

The guy selling it doesnt seem to be boat savy, and im 1000 miles away.
So what your saying is it could be any of the 4 engine i listed? It appears to be a BBC but what displacement it has is up for grabs depending on the work that was done to it. The valve covers look like the old Tonawanda covers that have been polished and the intake is polished but that means nothing about the internals, cast, forged, stroked, bored etc. |
Oh and if you find out it's a 502, don't get all excited in front of the current owner if this is a boat you are trying to buy!!!

I could have swore your first post said 525, the engine looked completely black.
