496 HO solenoid clicks, wont start
25 Baja outlaw failed me this weekend and had to be towed in. Cranked up twice to run from one cove to another but when leaving cove motor wouldnt turn over. Popped the hatch and heard a clicking sound coming from the solenoid on top of the motor. both batteries are charged and have plenty of juice, hooked battery box and jumper cables up with same result. No loose cables were found. any idea what else it could be? bad solenoid? bad starter?

if the selenoid is clicking, take it apart and clean the contacts, 9 out of 10 ten times that is the problem
|
sounds to me like the relay is working but the solenoid isnt, had a similar problem on my 496 and it was the main plug on the back of the engine, but it sounds like yours may be the solenoid

I appreciate the responses but its in the shop at Pier 57 today so hopefully I hear from them today that it was a simple and easy fix.

Pier 57 called and said that the starter was bad and had to be replaced. a quick and easy 300 dollars waahooooo. Im guessing that my leaky shift cable boot that caused the engine compartment to half way fill with water might have caused the starter to go out, just my opinion.

every time you float test a starter it fails a short while later. it never fails on the spot, it lets you think you dodged a bullet, then...

and thats exactly what it did, work a few weekends, started to struggle like batteries were dying, then BAM while 7 miles away from dock click click click.
