525SC Fuel Burn Rate
 

Does anyone have any information on the Fuel burn rate (Gallons per hour) on the old 525sc Motors? Trying to see where the best cruise spee / RPM is.

their fuel pigs,somthing like 25-30 gallons per hour at 3500..

My 525's can use 30 to 50gph in the 3000 to 4000 rpm range,
and 100 to 120gph between 4500 to 5100.
This is a best guess because I'm only looking at the fuel tank level.
I've got extension boxes, intercoolers, and the smaller pulley's for more boost so it really starts sucking the fuel harder at a lower rpm and draining the tank quickly at the higher rpm's.
I've never topped my boat off and done a mpg rate. I'd guess 1 to 1.25mpg in low/mid 3000's and 1/2mpg in the upper 4000 to low 5000s.

Looking at your tag line I see you've got an awesome boat, Congrats. I love the look of those 38's.
I'm curious, what do you see for top speed with those SC's.

They are thirsty engines for the amount of HP they make. If you can keep them at 3500rpms or below with little or no boost, that'll be your best bet---as long as your hull is freed up and not pushing too much water.
I had a 525SC in my 28 Pantera and pretty much had to run it at 3800-4000rpms to get the hull to loosen up and it sucked down a lot of fuel. It really didn't help to run it at 3200rpms though, because the boat wouldn't loosen up and mpg was about the same.

Had 525sc's in a 98 36 outlaw. These guys are right. I used 1.2 mpg avg to plan fuel for the day and usually came out a hair ahead. My ruff numbers were like these guys abotu 1.5 mpg at say 3500 ish rpm, or 4k on up under 1mpg. they are thirsty.

But great torque, great reliability, the blower whine isn't obnoxous and only really starts about 4500 rpm or so.

My bud Old Navy has one in his 28 ft Checkmate, he uses about 1.5 X's as much gas as My Baja just cruising for some reason, the best mileage he gets is keeping the throttles on the primarys enough to loosen boat up and by staying out of the secondarys (big dominator with 90 somethiing main jets EATS gas like no tommorrow) , I would guess he's getting about 1.5-1.7 cruising with single engine , Smitty

I averaged about 1.25-1.5 mpg in my single 525SC Pantera.

Mine are fresh rebuilds from Scorpion Racing in Detroit and have a roller cam upgrade and dynoed at 560 HP. The best I have seen so far is 82 mph. at 5300 RPM. I am spinning 28P Bravo 1's right now, and would like to try and spin a pair of 30's.

Thanks for all the info. I was figuring 1 mpg to be on the safe side. 1.5 mpg would be great, but I don't think I do that well.
