Whippled 496HO running hot

Test drove a Daytona with a 496HO with a whipple kit. Ran awesome and sounded way cool. After a few high speed passes it ran the temp upto 185 to 190. Is that normal? Top end wasn't as good after it heated up also. What temp should it run normally? I did notice the drive water intake holes a bit high. Seems like wot only a portion of the drive water intake holes would be sucking water. I will try and post a pic. Is this it or do I need to look further?

well if its not as fast as it was the first time wot run you probable blew a head gasket from no getting enough water in the engine..

how can i check for a blown head gasket?

I would stay away from a whippled stock 496. They will run great for awhile......

Fixx can tell you how to check the head gaskets.

mine runs 120f...that is the thermostat rating with the whipple kit...

+1
If the motor wasn't upgraded with all the Raylar parts along with the Whipple, don't buy it!

he had the wrong stat, 160 instead of the 120 whipple sugested. motor runs 160 @ wot. and now runs consistant speed.

I have he 2.3l side mounted whipple, I do not use a t stat, I run @ 130deg consistent ! Any benefit in running a 120 vs no t stat?

The 496 is closed cooling and what the Whipple instructions say to use. The 502 side mount kit says to remove the thermostat. The only real difference the 120 would make is maybe give more restriction and cause more water pressure, but no real reason to run it unless you are in cold water a lot.
