What difference between gen 5 and 6

can anyone tell what are the differences in a gen 5 and a gen 6 454 MAG? Wrecked a bottem end on my Gen 6 and found a gen 5 short block all re-done.

What happened to ur motor? What went?

gen 5 comes with flat tappet cam,and 10 bolt timing cover made. of steel, gen 6 comes with hyd roller and 6 bolt plastic timing chain cover.the gen 5 cannot be safely boared over .060,the gen 6 can go .090 safely

So putting my heads, intake and externals on this motor will be OK? Also, the motor is .30 over. Will this make much difference in the sync on the motors. I plan to pull the good motor out this winter and have it re-done as well. Just need to get back on the water for this season. Any info is appreciated.

yes, transfuring the parts from your old motor will work, and a .030 overbore will not make a noticable difference in power.

Great Thanks

What happened to the motor Kragar? That sucks!

motor and the oil had a fight and the oil decided it would rather hang out in the bilge.:angry-smiley-038:
I think a rod broke without warning and came thru the oil pan

i just reread the op,the hyd roller lifters wont work in the gen 5 block,no provision to mount the spuder that holds down the link bars, but with aftermarket hyd roller lifters, can do,you will need an adjustible valve train, also aftermarket.
