questions re adding a fuel water separator

My boat is non stock and has been running without a fuel water separator for some time. I am replacing the fuel pump and have decided to add a fuel water separator. My question is does it plumb from the tank to the fuel water separator then from there to the pump?

tank, filter, pump

That's what I thought. Thanks

you sure you want to be sucking thru that filter rather than pushing thru that filter ? thats not how i would do it nor have ever seen from any factory installation...

both of my performance boats came from the factory, tank filter pump.

all factory setups should pull thru, not push thru. if they don't, they were changed. pulling thru allows the water to settle, pushing thru continuously stirs it and forces particles thru the micron filter.

hmmm. oh well... i guess that must be correct. my boat wasn't that way at all.

sorry. carry on.

addendum... i i admit to being obsessive... and discovering that i am factually wrong about something that i believed to be true sends me off to find out why... so i called engineering at racor and asked them this question. and it turns out for sure these filters go before the pump. the resons are that they are designed specifically to work on the suction side ( low resistance because of low viscosity and because if water passes thru the pump first, it emulsifies and is then difficult to seperate...

how about that. interesting.
