Boat Shutters when slowing down
 

I have a 24 foot Essex Valor with the 496 HO. When I slow down and the boat comes of plane, just as it sinks into the water I get a relatively violant shutter or shake through the steering wheel which is felt through the whole boat. I don't have a bent prop shaft and the prop is a Bravo 1-24p that looks like new. It only seems to do this if I roll back slowly on the throttle trying to ride the wake out a bit.

It does not do this during acceleration even if I roll on real slow. Only felt during decel? Any ideas what causes this?

Check to make sure all the rubber strips are on the hub for the prop..

Mine shudders lightly when I come off plane too, not sure about your set-up, but mine is caused by the water coming back up the pipes a bit. Water rushing in, exhaust coming out cause this vibration the best I can tell.

Not sure what you mean by rubber strips? Can you clarify?

If you take the prop off there are rubber strips that transfer the power from the hub to the prop itself, more than likely you are feeling the water against the exhaust though.

Just because the prop looks perfect does not mean it is balanced perfect.

You will have to take the prop off and remove the hub. I just use a socket the size of the hub and tap it out with a hammer. There should be 4 rubber strips on the side of the hub.

Mine was doing it to, not as bad as yours but I could feel it. I found trimming my donw before coming off plane stopped it, don't know why it just did.

It's likely exhaust related when the pipes get a big wall of water trying to go up them.
Watch the back of the boat when you have somebody slowly come off plane and see if the shudder coincides with the exhausts getting covered.
