Dart short block, or rebuild with what I have?
I have a gen 5 block, crank and rods but need new pistons/rings, bearings and machine work/labor.looking for input from anyone that has been down this road.

Just spent $12k, same thing, except I upgraded rods to H-beams, then added Morel lifters and of course some AFR heads, bigger carb. I wish I would have sold what I had and bought the Dart short block and done the work myself. I probably wouldn't have saved much as I would have put it into more cubes bigger cam etc. But I would be a whole lot closer to breaking 100 than I am now. I have some pieces left over that might help, Crane roller lifters, GMPP rods with ARP bolts and JE forged flat top 4.560 pistons.

Do you have a 454 or 502? Gen V's kinda suck.
Dont forget, if you go to a dart shortblock, internally balanced, mark iv style, you'll need a balancer, flywheel, and oil pan. So add that to the cost. |
I've got a fresh gen 5 for sale not sure what cam is in it, but plan on pulling the pan to check out the bottom end etc. bought it off another member as a long block but going a diff route
