It usually takes a good bit more water temp than 230 to scuff a piston from overheating. Just my 2 cents....

i agree,i like .001 xtra wall clearance on marine engines,as far as 230 deg water temp,that in itself probibally did not scuff the walls,but that combined with wot running,detonation probibally occured.
