454 - BW trans. - SSM 3 drive - please help!!!!
Ok, new here so here we go! I have a 88', 33' warrior marine Apache Renegade I purchased a few months ago. On about my 3rd trip out I lost fuel on the port side tank because of a false reading on the dash, running approx 3100 rpm. I slowed down and then as I came to close to an idle speed the starboard side acted like it seized up. So now dead in the water! Yay! After floating thru 2 torrential storms I was able to switch tank and refire both motors. Putted home on port side but starboard would just shut down in gear, either direction. So we pulled the ssm off and tore down the upper to find that the bearing on the front of the drive sheft over heated and busted due to low fluid in the drive! LESSON LEARNED-ALWAYS CHECK FLUIDS!! After rebuild and reinstall we put in the water and everything seem fine. Except same side when accelerating want to die off. You can put in gear and it will move forward and reverse but as soon as you try to give gas it chokes out. Engine idles good at 800-900 and revs good with no hesitation. Drive spins freely as its twin on the port side when in neutral. Please help! Summer is gone now and this sucks to say the least! I'm speculating the trans. Since all else seems a go. Had someone else say my timing may be off. So there you go......

I doubt anything is wrong with your trans, once the clutches are engaged, they should stay engaged. I could see if it were slipping, but killing the engine, dont believe that to be common. Although I have heard when you blow a drive, it can hurt the planetary gear set in the trans. It really could be anything from carb to ignition related though. |
Well after a weekend of running the motor, I do believe it's time for a carb rebuild. It seem the injectors are clogged and the pumpers were very stuck and had to be forced to work again. Thus resulting in no full when it needed the most. Hope will remove this week rebuild and try again this weekend. Thanks for the replies and any more help or info offered.
