single engine torque steer ?

This is for a friends boat, the boat was fine last year, pulled it out of storage 1st time in water and it steers and pulls hard to Starboard. No work/changes done over winter except winterization.

21 footer with volvo sterndrive

We checked drive, skeg for straightness finally adjusted the steer tab way over and it goes straight now and pulls just a little but if you turn to port it is lazy as heck, turn to starboard it snaps around almost. So still not right, any Ideas ?

Is your power steering pump working???

I had an issue where it was going bad, causing my steering to be hard in one direction and soft in the other.

The hard direction was caused by the torque of the motor and you pushing against it. The opposite was true when turning the otherway - you turn with the torque which moves it very quickly.

I guess without the pump, the spin / torque of the prop makes a big difference in the steering.

Bottom line, new pump - steering back to normal.
