525 head bolts torque?
Any body has the specs for the head bolts torques requirements?
Thx P |
30, 50, 65, 75 ft lbs with some Moly lube on the threads and a little oil under the head of the bolts and washers. Torque from the center out.

you will need to chase the threads first with a tap, then if you run into any that are in the coolant passages those will need to be sealed or else you will end up with coolant in your oil..me,i seal all of them, you never know if one blind hole was drilled too deep and it leaks..

Thanks, but let me get this right. Torque all bolts to 30, first then 50. and so on, for a final torque of 75?
Thx P |

I do. If I use oil on the threads instead of Moly, then I pull them down to 80. Years ago we only used oil. The problem is that when torquing in steps, the torque to get the bolt moving from say 65 ft lbs. in probably over 70. So, if you pull to 75, the bolt may barely move since the friction is so high.

Make sure you have a good torque wrench, preferably one that has been recently calibrated, and use NEW head bolts. Ask me how I know...

Paradox, not trying to be obnoxious or anything, but your questions lead me to believe that you may be kind of new to cylinder head installs. Hopefully you are using a high quality marine grade head gasket like the Cometics or the better grade of FelPro's. Just ask or do a search if you are unsure. Also, if my assumption is correct, I predict that your next post will be asking about correct rocker arm / lifter preload adjustment! :)
Good luck with the project. I'll be down the same path (again) shortly. |
