CAPTAIN JACK 09-25-2012 07:53 PM

I don't know if any of you guy's ever run this stuff, but my engine builder swears by it, he says its one of the higher zinc oil's out there, this is all he runs. Coarse he runs it in all his 7 sec drag cars, who know? It called "CAM 2 Blue Blood" Has anyone heard of it? here's the link.

DirtyJohnson 09-25-2012 08:09 PM

The HTHS viscosity of the oil is probably a better indicator of performance than all of the chemicals.

Brand Penn 20W-50 is 6.2 which is pretty high.

Smitty 09-25-2012 09:02 PM

I use Joe Gibbs HR-1 It is high zinc for off road use only.

The biggest thing I notice is that after a hard run, I still have lots of oil pressure when I come back to idle. I have tried Rotella, Mystic, Brad Penn, Castrol etc. None of them kept my pressure up when super hot.

cdail28590 09-27-2012 10:03 AM

I thought you wanted more zinc in your oil to break in the cam, wouldn't the Lucas Oil break in oil be the best or add this to your oil?

ROTAX454 09-27-2012 02:02 PM

Beyond the obvious break-in oils, I thought the Joe Gibbs product would have been #1. Very happy and surprised to see the the Mobil 1 SJ product rated the highest. Nice to know.

IMHO why would you purchase a specific break-in oil? Just pick your favorite brand and add some break-in additive. Purchased cheap at either Summit or Jegs. GM brand, Redline, etc. Lot's of choices.

professor_speed 09-27-2012 07:54 PM

one thing i will say about Lucas is that test there oil in just about every racing arena you can think of, teage will say amsoil, nigel hook will tell you lucas, ive never seen a joe gibbs boat, or a brad penn boat, but I know a few engine builders that distribute brad penn. not sure if its cause they believe in it or cause that's what they make a buck off of. $.02 Also on the penn oil it is possible that test I referenced ealier may have been penn pcmo and not penn grade 1. http://www.penngrade1.com/Zinc.aspx I hade pen grade 1 on in engine that sat for nearly 2 years in a minnesota in garge that was heated up cooled down multiple times in the winter. crazy condensation on any thing metal. when I opened that engine the bores looked perfect. and there was still green oil stuck to the walls.

waybomb 09-27-2012 08:04 PM

FWIW, if you need some original GM Break in Lube, not the new "watered down" stuff, give me a shout.
If you are running flat tappet cams, you better always run high ZDDP oil, not just break-in.

On Time 09-27-2012 10:31 PM

How bout good ol Mercruiser 25w-40? Has 1120 zinc.

minxguy 09-28-2012 08:23 AM
