2008 Merc 525 Dropped Exhaust Valve
Hello everyone! I'm new here... My buddy dropped the exhaust valve on #8 cylinder a few weeks back. The engine is a Mercury 525 EFI Blue engine. The new (from Merc) long block is on it's way soon. I guess because he's buying new they don't want the core. Is there any value to this engine with heads. The one head is trashed, from what we can tell is the pro comp hyd rocker arm bearing failed causing the exhaust valve to stick open, then broke off and smashed up #8 cyl. pretty good. I will try to get pics up. I will also get the serial number. Any sugestions on what to do with this block and heads is much appreciated!

May be able to sleeve that cylinder and get a new piston and head. Are those aluminum heads? I've had aluminum heads repaired where the combustion chamber was beat to hell from dropping a valve.

They have some used value and can be repaired. You can put them in the swap shop here, someone will want them.
|
They are alum head, edlebrock heads I am pretty sure.
Lots of good stuff in that engine, someone will want it. I would suggest having someone tear the rotating assembly out, checking the block good and crank for true. If that stuff checks out you will get more money IMO. Cost to do so should be minimal. How many hours were on the engine? |
Check the headers while they're off the engine.
