Tie bar attachment?
 

I just installed a new Latham "saddle mount" Tie Bar (Thanks BAM) I am curious on how tight to make the nuts on the Trim cylinder bolt. These are nylock type nuts and prior to the tiebar saddles I left them a little loose as to not bind the trim cylinder assembly and bushings. Now with the Saddle I have to tighten them down significantly to hold the saddle in the vertical position as to not flop arround. Am I missing something? The trim seems to work fine but it would seem to me it should have some sort of stop to prevent fore and aft rotataion.

Is this the "Saddle Type" of tie bar you are talking about?
If so, I just recently started having problems this year with the starboard mount "reclining" backward from the vertical position. I'm not sure what is doing this. Both drives seem to trim up/down at relatively the same rate. One might be a touch slower than the other, but I wouldn't think it would cause the mount to be pushed back.

Let me know what you find out, I am very interested. For a temporary solution, I swung both mounts as far back as they could go. Worked OK for a while, but now the right drive mount got pushed forward :confused: I'd like to get something a little more permanent of a fix. Drive angle's make a big ride difference in my boat.

P.S. How are those Motors working out for you this summer?

Bayley, have a machine shop modify your tie bar to attach to the same brackets as your hydraulic steering rams.

Bayley, Yes same kind of setup, I talked to latham and they said to tighten them down enough to hold but not too much where you cannot move them. Seems like I will have to just pull them back once in a while. I may look into drilling a hole in the saddle and drive and just put in a loose pin, It would be held in by the bushing and not have to be pressed in. I will wait and see how they work first.

mcollinstn, that was how mine was set up before, with a long bolt and clevisis. I had to get a new one to clear my new mufflers thats why I am using the lower saddle type now.
