I have a JVC Arsenal series headunit with 3) 5V outputs, 2 USB's, bluetooth, 3.5mm jacks, and aux inputs and I can either control the music at the head unit or the phone, depending on which is set to display the playlist. Charges phone when using the USB plug. Also have a RF remote. IR's bite!

What do you mean by "new" Apple units?

The iPhone5 is causing all sorts of problems with head units that were previously completely compatible with iOS devices. Obviously it requires the correct cord set (new units have a Lightning port instead of the 30 pin dock connector) but that doesn't seem to be enough for some units. Car mfrs are also butting their heads on this issue.

Any NEW Apple iOS device from here out will have the Lightning connector. Might want to give it a couple of months to shake out all of the potential problems with the new Lightning cable situation so you know whether you are going to be buying a new headunit the next time you upgrade your iPhone..

My JVC head unit has full control over my iphone 5, and likewise the iphone5 over the head unit, depending on which is set to be the controller. The same results when I checked my iphone 4 with the IOS 6 update.
