Oil Temp Gauge - Not working (496/8.1)
 

Ever since I installed my new Raylar 600's my oil temp gauges havent worked. How can I test the gauge? Can I run 6V to it at the sensor and see if it reads at the dash?

-Neither engine oil temp gauge works.
-The engines run at water temp of 160 pretty consistent.
-I have Jegs inline 180 degree oil thermostats installed.
-Gauges start at 140 degrees but never move at all.
-Oil pressure is 50 at idle up to 80 at 5000 rpm.

There is a little fiber washer on the sensor nut shaft. I have placed it over and under the wire and it made no difference (this is what I originally thought it was...)

key on engine off, touch the wire to the engine block or any ground. see if the gauge moves. if yes bad sending unit or not proper ohms for gauge. if no. bad gauge or wiring. make sure the correct wire on your engine side is on the sendign unit. dont put voltage to the wire.. you will be buying a new gauge if you do that

Is there thread sealer on the sensors????? You can't use sealer or teflon tape on them or they won't ground properly.

Really!? That never crossed my mind. Is there any way to confirm ground? Is an OHM meter accurate enough? (use it on the block & sensor maybe?)

check for continunity between engine block and side of oil temp sensor where you would tighten it with a wrench. anything over .5 ohms is too much. your leads on your meter will probably have .2 ohms
