Tach Problems

I just put my motor back in the boat and my tach is reading 3000 rpm at idle, The tach will move as i rev the motor but it starts at 3000 rpm.

Is it a marine tach or a automotive style?

reset the pole setting on the back of the tach with a small flat blade screw driver.

Sounds like mine that I just through in the trash but if you did something major like a motor install I would start chasing connections.
