Fogging out 502/454 MPI's.

How do you go about this, in the past i will put some 2stroke in the fuel filter while i run it but it just doesn't seem to get the ***ging smoke that i want, didn't know how other do this. Because of the air plentum i wasn't sure if you can fog through the throttle body.

definitely not thru the throttle body. At our marina we mix a cocktail of gas, fogging oil and stabil in a 6 gallon tank and run on that,

What type of fogging oil do you use when mixing with gas ?

portable gas tank fill with gas / a quality 2 stroke outboard oil, this all depends how much gas using and a good quality fuel stabilizer - pour this in the portable gas tank -shake it all up.

Next pull your fuel line at the motor side inlet - hook your portable gas tank mix then run your motor on the water hose.

This is Mercruiser and Volvo Specs

Do not forget to pour fuel stabilizer in the boats fuel tank also

I have to ask what's "fogging" do?

FIXX 10-21-2012 02:53 PM

i do it with a 6 gallon tank and 2 stroke oil,,i also fog through the plenum and yes if you use crc foaming fogging oil it works great to keep the valves, valve seats and cylinder walls oiled up to keep them from rusting..you can get the crc brand from advanced auto parts for like 5 bux a can..every little bit helps...i fog the engines when i have them hooked up to my antifreeze tank when the engine is hot and im pumping antifreeze through the engines....

Mixing the cocktail as described above, could I just run a gas line to a has can as long as it is far enough from the engine bay and run two gallons through? Will that be enough to coat the internals well enough and safe enough not to blow myself up?

Any EFI/MPI will adjust itself to keep running when fogging with 2 stroke oil/gas mix. You can't choke it out like you can on a carb motor. Heck, I can't even choke out my carb motors anymore with spray.

I've done it both ways, mixing up a can; and draining the fuel filter and adding 1/2 full with 2 stroke oil.

IF you want to go so far as to winterize with non-ethanol fuel in a separate tank, the mix in a tank method works pretty well. This is a good time to pump your tanks dry if you chose.

IF you have your ethanol fuel well treated, using the fuel filter and oil method works just fine.

just use some SeaFoam . . . it gets the bulk of the funk off the top end, and it can be sprayed or poured in the gas tank

and it'll get the exhaust smoke that you're looking for

BBCLiberator 10-21-2012 07:37 PM

I also just use SeaFoam.
