Max safe piston/cylinder clearance with procharger?
I am reassembling a stock 45 with the original cast pistons. I am re ringing and honing. Can anyone please tell me what the max piston/cylinder clearance I can run?
The engine is a stock 330 hp 454 with an inter cooled procharger that only makes 5 psi of boost. |
Manual will tell ya .0035 max. From the factory their set up at .0014-.0024. Not sure of the affects the procharger has on those specs.

Why, if you have it all apart, would you not just replace the crappy cast pistons with forged pistons??? especially for a procharged engine????

nothing is safe with a pro charger and cast pistons..
|
If its a stk 330. Dish Pistons, better rods & crank would be a wise decision IMO. A lot of decent parts out there at a really good prices!

Cheaper insurance going forged, you don't want to build it all over again because you cheaped out...been there done that not fun
I hate doing things twice lol |
Forged pistons it is then
Thanks for the input,
That is just what Island Racing in N Hero said, get forged pistons, bigger rods, balance, Iconel exhaust valves then check tune on dyno. At least I will only have to do it right the first time! |
