Timing a 1997 7.4 bravo

is there not a timing tab for a Gen VI 454, how do you time this to 8 degree BTC without marks? The timing tab is just a pointer???

efi?,,short out a$b on the aldl plug and line up the pointer with the line. efi is usually zero...

Sorry I should have gave more information Its a Carb motor, I dont think it was ever an efi

apparently it has been painted over. I quick method without going through all the other suggestion that will come along is to measure the diameter which should be 8 inches

Circumference = Pi (3.14) x Dia (C=pD)

result = 25.1327 / 360 dgrees = .069 inches per degree

.069 x 10 degrees = .69

You can now make a mark approx .69 inches to the right of the TDC marker. Set the timing

This will apply to an engine unless you are racing the crap out of it

BTW ^^^^^^^ method is not accurate..
on somthing like that and most of the time you cant read the ignition module to see what advance number is on it i will use a advance timing light and line up the line on the ballancer with the pointer at 3500 rpm..you take the timing light and set the dial at 32* and rev the engine to 3500 rpm's and line up the marks..
