Procharger Oil Change
Question for people with Self Contained Prochargers,
I just did my first oil change on a new M1-SC after about 9 hours. I was surprised to see what appeared to be fine metallic particles suspended in the oil. Has anyone taken a close look at the oil from an initial oil change on an SC unit? I am debating contacting ATI and inquiring but I thought I'd post a thread. I put fresh oil in it and ran it and plan to do another oil change in 20 hours or so. thanks if you have any information. paul |
If they were very fine shavings, don't worry about it. That's just the gears developing a wear pattern.
If they were large shavings then that would be a different story. By the next oil change there should be less. There will be some due to what was left in the casing. However, after a couple of more changes they should just about disappear. DAVE |
I dont have a procharger but I have seen that in two other mechanical situations. Actually in my brothers Chevy and mothers Dodge there were noticeable shavings in the oil during the first few oil changes.
Like Dave said it should become less and less. |
Thanks guys,
The stuff I could see in suspended in the oil was definately fine particles. Fine enough that they stayed in suspension for the hour or so after I drained it. I'll keep an eye on it with the next couple of changes. Paul |
