My Boat Engine Shop, I need help on Air Compressors??
 

I've been using a Crafstman 4hp 25 gall 110 cheapy 125psi,and its just not getting it anymore,loud as hell ,want keep up on air tools or even when porting heads. I want to upgrade, Im going to put it in a area off the garage and know Ive got to run a 10/3 wire.Prob 35ft run,I figure im going to run the rapid air 1/2 system prob 3-4 outlets.

Im looking at the Quincy for around $1389 w/ tax ,free delivery. Plus a $100.00 on line gift card.=1289.00

Ive been reading up on the Ingersoll Rand and they have been saying mostly import parts on it,its cheaper in price and the web forums are saying lower quality,

Do you guys have any suggestions? Is this size going to be a noticeable difference? I really dont want to go above $1600, but I do not want to just upgrade a little,

you aren't going to get one for 1600 $ but the rotary screw type compressors are the cats ass. they are nearly silent and are much more efficient and cheaper to run than the piston types... it made life a lot better in my shop instead of listening to a 5hp hammering away all day . they were relatively new when i bought mine and were very expensive but i just did a quick google search and see that there are now simple tank mounted ones available for small shop and home use. they are certainly more money than piston ones but the performance and comfort are well worth the price of admission... your neighbors will love you for it...

I bought a Lowes "special" with an 80 gl tank for about $500. It's loud but I put it in the shed behind the garage and used 3/4 in pipe (400psi) run run lines throughout the garage with fitting where needed. That thing is loud as crap in the shed but with an insulated garage I have to stand still/quiet to hear it running in the garage.

I bought a 60 gal vertical 2 cyl one 25 years ago, it's a single phase 230 volt one and it's been awesome for all these years...was like $500..not sure if they still make them as good ???

Im in the same boat, lol, need to upgrade 15.4 at 100 psi seems like it would do the trick, just dont know about the volumn of the tank size, its kinda like boating and the 2footeritise, Id go for the 80

rotary screw all the way i replaced 2 compressers a 7hp and 5hp running together with a10hp polar air rotary screw best thing i ever did and u can use the exhaust to help heat your shop

Also the 60 gall has a pump rpm of 1310 and the 80 gall is 942,what will this mean besides being quieter probaly?

Like t500hps said Im putting it in a shed and I want hear it running in the garage.The Craftsman is in the garage and loud as hell.

I cant see the roterary screw being cost feasible at $3,899.99. Ive been getting by on the Craftsman for 15 years,so its really a want, not really a have to have.

I have been using this one for the last ~7 years. Runs the DA and 15" straight line air sander fine. I didn't buy it at Walmart though.

I have that exect 60 gal Quincy in my shop[ at home. 1 blown head gasket in 7 years of HARD use. I hink it will serve you fine. Just bought a similar Ingersol Rand at Rural king for the new shop. I think it was $999. So far I like it very well and it is a little quieter than the Quincy.
