525 efi help
I am trying to convert a gen 6 502 mag mpi to 525 efi fuel injection set up i am wondering if anyone has done this before and if you have to use the trigger system from mercury or can it be replaced with a msd trigger system.I have a 525 computer and wiring harness and cool fuel system for it but was thinking of running a a 1000 pump instead of the cool fuel becouse of no fuel pump boss is there anyproblems with doing that also thanks for any help john

question 1 are you using cloosed cooling?
2 fuel pump will be mounted to sea pump? 3 changing oil cooler? |
I do not have closed cooling I was hoping to just use a automotive a 1000 electric fuel pump but I guess I could go that rout all I need to do is change out my sea pump I also was planning on using my oil cooler unless it will not work out thanks john

what ECU are you going use and do you have a wiring harness?
|
I have a 525 efi wiring harness. And a Motorola PCM from a 525 I also have dist coil packs the only thing I don't have is the crank trigger set up an I don't think my timing cover has a place to mount the sencer

Are you cloning a 525? |
I should be close to one I have 305 afr heads wit CBC chambers and a hyd roller cam from bob that is probley close to a 525 cam
|
There is two different wiring harnesses a10 pin and a 14 pin
What one do you have? Also do you have the cam positioning dist? I'm in the middle of doing this same project myself. There was three different set ups for cam, crank position sensors, Pm me your # and I will pass on the info I have if you would like. Keith |
i have the 10 pin harness and yes i do have the dist but do not have the wheel that bolts to the balancer and i am thinking i have to change my timing cover for the crank trigger sensor i will pm u my number thanks for the help john

I'm doing this same conversion and need to know how to install the trigger wheel to balancer. what is the proper "phasing"? the teeth are spaced differently in 3 locations. 1 of 3 positions is right. anyone know which one? thanks, Tom

Just go to GMPerformance parts and order the new kit part#19260247. It is a new timing cover with sensors and openings for both the crankshaft sensor -58X and camshaft sensor 4X, the timing gears and chain set and a crankshaft mounted reluctor fror the crankshaft sensor. All in a nice package that is a bolt on, keeps reluctor and sensors inside the engine and out of salt water or such. It's also very reasonably priced. This is the same setup Mercury Racing uses on the new HP525efi and HP565efi engines.

I'm told the computer needs reworked if you go that route. different number of teeth on crank trigger wheel from outside of engine to inside. and unsure of number of targets for cam sensor when used that way. just what I'm told anyway. thanks, Tom
|
Just buy Merc Part # 8M0050760 target wheel, about $20 and you will have the correct crank reluctor setup for the PCM555 -525efi engine.

Anyone used the GM crank trigger kits with a 525 gen 2? I have a gen 2 wiring harness and looking to use the GM kit and the Mercury reluctor to make it work. Is there any computer differences between the different generations due to the crank and cam position sensor location changes? |
Has anyone adapted a gen 2 wiring harness to work on a gen 1 525. The plug ins for the sensors are different I can see and obviously wire length. Wondering if I can change connectors and it will work correctly or just convert the motor to later style with the crank and cam sensors in the timing chain cover. |

I’ve been reading up on that gmpp part and people that have used it. Seems to be pretty universal and easily combined with different systems. |
