Stereo speaker question

No stereo in the boat currently, I`m starting fresh. I`ve got 6x9 speaker cut outs, started doing some research and seems people are recommending using an adapter and converting to either 4" speaker for better sound or I found these:

to use 6 1/2" speakers

I`m not up on stereo stuff, whats a better sound?

I really like my Rockford marine speakers. And I would try and go with 8" speakers.

I have also seen people run dual 6 1/2" speakers in a 6x9 hole. Almost all custom stereo professionals recommend a 6 1/2" as the best sounding size. They would need to be properly paired to sub woofers also.

I would also suggest more rms watts and better quality amps. You want to run at least 75 to 100% of the speakers rms watts.

Best base will be with an enclosed sub woofer or 2. Free air will just dissapoint.

Alpine and Kicker make nice marine speakers also

Lots of people like the JL but I have heard many that did not impress me like they should have

Where are the 6x9 holes????? If you have the room/depth, enlarge the holes and replace with either some 10" subs or DC Gold 9.5's.
If you don't have room/depth, just use 6x9 speakers. The DC Gold 6x9's sound very good also.

+1 I put all new Fosgate marine speakers in my boat, Sony head unit and amps, it sounds great, make sure you size your amps for max wattage of the speakers, and wire size from your battery to the amps is critical for max performance, good luck

I have four 5 1/4" Babb speakers in my cabin hooked up directly to a Pioneer head unit. In the cockpit, I have 2 10" Babbs in the front bottom of the rear bench and a 6 1/2" Kicker speaker on each side under the bolsters. The four cockpit speakers are connected directly to a JL Audio 4-channel amp ( I think it's a 4300 model). I have a switch on the dash that can turn on/off the amp. That gives me the option to just have it regular with the cabin speakers only..... or to ROCK OUT!

It works pretty well for us

I`ve got two openings on each side of the cockpit. One under the bolster and one closer to the bench.

The bench also has openings for subs, they are covered with vinyl at this point.

Something with good highs for the cockpit and then use the subs for the base?

I can go any size on the side speakers now that I think about it..

Todd, those are real sweet maybe just bungy cord to bolters??
