Liberator ?

Hello Everyone,

I have to admit, I have been lurking here for quite some time and have learned a ton from your post and such. So since I am close to becoming a Liberator owner, I thought I should finally register.
I am in the market to purchase a Liberator and I have found one (1989 201 series w/ a 302 motor) From what I have been reading, I am wondering if the 302 might not have enough power to make the boat perform. Question is, What do you all think?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and input.
Bryan

http://www.fourwinns.com/content/ass...Facts_1990.pdf

Page 79 of this four winns says 50-52mph with a 260 horse 350. That is in line with one I know of with a 351 of about the same horsepower.

Thanks for the reply.
So you would be comfortable with the 302 motor is what I am seeing.

That brochure was from '90 when they didn't offer the 302ci.

I believe the 302ci was around 200 horse, so If 260 horse pushes it to low 50's I would expect high 40's out of the 302ci.

Whethr its right for you depends on what you want. It won't be fast but should move along fine. If you really like the boat you could alway repower with something bigger (maybe a 351)?

One note, although they can be a fine setup, the fords/omcs are less desirable (omc out of business, more plentiful/cheaper gm stuff out there etc.). This tends to affect resale value so you should consider this when negociating a price.

Great information. Thanks again.

Does it have a cobra or a king cobra drive?

Says Alpha 1

mmmmmmmm.......

In '89 Four Winns had a partnership with OMC and did not offer mercruiser (alpha). They did offer Mercruiser in '88 but not a Ford 302, only lists a 270 horse 350 gm.

Are you sure its an '89 and that the motor is a 302? Someone could have repowered it but somethings off.

Any pics?

I believe I will let this one go and keep looking. Thanks again for the info!

Mercury ditched Fords in the mid 70's. Possibly it was a 305 GM.
