525SC Twins set @ different timings-concerns/problems??
 

Have '93 Fountain w/525SC's and recently had to replace the stock Mercruiser "Firepower" black box MS Ignition on one engine with their new Ignition conversion kit. Kit contains an Ignition Module, Rev limiter, and new coil. This new ignition kit requires timing to be set at 13 degrees at idle, 35 total. The other engine, is set at 15 degrees at idle (not sure what the total is). My questions are: Are there any issues or concerns one should be aware of when running the engines under these circumstances?
Will one have more power than the other (i.e., power curves differ)? Should I replace the other engines black box with the new Ignition Kit so they are both operating the same?

Any insight into this would be appreciated.

2 degrees will have little effect on how the each engine runs with that much intial timing. Are you sure 35 degrees for total advance on a supercharged engine??? Seems very high. Be more concerned about total advance with each engine. Since you are setting timing on one do the other, it only takes 2 minutes.

I forgot to add that the advance curve should be the same as your other engine as well.

i run 35 degrees total,14 initial ,21 degrees centrifugal
on my 97 525sc.92 octane always!!

Thanks for the responses. According to the Mercruiser Documentation the new ignition kit calls for 13 degrees at idle and 35 degrees total advanced. Some of my friends say 35 degrees total advanced may affect longivity in the engine. I will probably work with the timing on both engines to get the best desired results for the engines and running.

You can correct me if I am wrong, but I think the reason you are able to run 35 deg. total is because the 525 SC has only 7.5 to 1 compression ratio.
