A little but I don't think you will get what you are looking for. I just measured a barrel at work that is 75mm (~3") at 130*F it measured +0.010" then at 95*F it was +0.006".

What brand and type of measuring tools are you using?

Jerry, it's the Shars brand stuff - "MIC" mic's (Made In China). ;)

Admittedly, I would prefer to be using the good stuff, but FWIW I checked them against the Sunnen equipment that my machinist was using and they were reasonably accurate. Definitely not off enough to make up a full thousandth. But that is one reason I am going to drag everything back out there to have it verified.

Like I said b4, I rarely get away with just one set of bearings. Even if everything but the block is new. That probably has to do with the scat cranks I often use.

The problem you have now is even x bearings don't get you the clearance you need. How are you measuring? Mic the crank, transfer that measure to a bore indicator and check the clearance in the torqued bearings in the block?

BT, that is exactly what I did. So that should have a reasonable chance of eliminating the possibility of stacked variances on the measuring tools.

Make sure you don't have any burrs on the line bore job that are making the shells sit high. I'd take it all apart and re-inspect/clean the bearing mount surfaces.

the rear jornal should be a tad smaller,(additional .001) this will allow sifficient oiling as the surface area is twice that of the front 4 saddles... IMPO

BT, I checked that already, and they all looked good.

Thinking seriously about trying the King Alecular bearings on the mains this time around. They are actually a lot cheaper than the Clevite's, and I have read a lot of good things about them. I am taking the block over to the machinist's tomorrow to have him measure the clearances. Going to measure all the crank journals and bearing saddle bore's with his equipment, then determine if we need a set of x bearings.
