The black is common earth on a three wire.

Run it to the battery neg or block (prolly closer) and all is good.

Have a look at a 3 wire schematic and compare it to the 2 wire.

You could do it, but why .Three wire typically use solenoids and two wire use relays .Wired completely different .If you are having to ask the question ,you probably should just replace with the same type motor that is there. The wiring is simple but why change unless you have to (for whatever reason) JMO. On the relays,they are both "parked" at ground .The one you energize becomes hot and the other remains ground ...polarity reversing......Solenoids are just electric switches with the third black (-) always (-)grd
