Can anyone tell me there to get the blue oil filters like this? I can't
find them. All that i come up with are yellow now. Part number pl34631 Thanks. |
I believe these are all the same
Puralator (Pure) PL 34631
Mobil M1-302 and GM PF1218 (also referred to as PF35) http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...URPL34631.html |
ac delco are blue, puralator are all yellow now its for a better grip when installing them
|
Yeah that's all Iv'e been able to fine. I would like to have the blue met. but I'll use the Wix racing filters. I'm sure there better anyway. Thanks for the reply's.

Purolator changed from the nice metallic blue to the yellow. I like the Amsoil filters as they have a nice black paint job.
|
Mobil 1 are black with some blue, red and gold lettering. A very good filter as well.
|
I like that pik. Never knew you could get an oil filter tha came from the factory with metal flakes already in them.

Not so sidetrack too much, long story short , my BB in my Chevelle was dynoed with Puralator filters. Put the motor in the car and changed the oil with another Puralator and it would loose oil pressure in about 15 sec. After a mild heart attack I found the filter colapsed inside. I like to use Amsoil, Wix, or Fram HP filters.

I been using the wix racing filters for a few years now. They are stout filters construction wise!
|
STP filters are very close to the Merc Blue without the metallic. Bosch has gloss black filters. Not sure on the quality of either but I have used both with no problems. I change the oil on mine about every few runs anyway due to forced induction delusion.

I have a fresh oil filter on mine for the first part of the year but would like to switch to Wix, where can you cross refrence a number for the 496 h.o.

The Bosch distance plus 3510 is merc blue :) my engine guy cut one open for inspection a few years ago, twice the filter element as a wix racing, he was amazed. They are made to leave on for multiple car oil changes ( I only use once) they are non bypass and are extremely heavy compared to other "racing" filters. Check them out

Having twice the filter element is not a good thing it cuts down oil flow. Any time it says extended life xtra guard ect. Stay away. If the motor is setup properly there should not be any trash in the oil. Fram ph filters are a big no no they kill oil flow and if you have a high volume pump its even worse. The holes around the big center hole is what makes a good filter if the holes are to small you will have problems unless you drive your boat like an old lady. Try to use an oil filter that is flat across the pad the ones that are recessed don't flow any oil because they end up getting restricted by the plastic cap on the end of the element. If you really want to see what I'm talking about get a Fram and a wix and cut them apart its very evident which one will starve the motor for oil.
Holes in center tube were the same size as the wix racing that he had at the shop. Here are some more details on the filter, a smaller passenger car version http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...Number=2124097 |
I recall reading that the NAPA Gold filters were a quality piece. Also recall reading that some filters (WIX & NAPA Gold?) use synthetic filter media rather than organic (paper) media, which will be less likely to swell and restrict flow if any moisture gets in the oil. Don't take my word as gospel, because this is just what I recall reading. I guess I have yet another thing to research before I crank up this engine. And not trying to be snarky or anything, but kind of surprised to see anyone worrying what color paint the filter has on the outside - I'm more worried about what is on the inside rather than pretty paint. That's what they make rattle cans for. ;)

Napa gold and wix are the same filter so are a couple others just can't remember. If you really want to get creative with your oil filter you could even bedazzle it...
If ya don't like the color they come in,... A rattlecan of yer favorite color paint will Fix that in seconds,... |
