new engine

is it possible to have a 1000 kg=2200lb engine in a scarab 30?

Baja226sport 04-16-2013 07:17 AM

Where are you getting a 2200lb engine?

MEANGREEN231 04-16-2013 12:49 PM

From the USS Iowa.

Maybe a pair of iron headed big blocks completely dressed with cast iron exhaust, but definitely not one engine......unless it's a pretty big diesel or a V12 Allison.:lolhit:

bgeiger 04-16-2013 02:33 PM

Detroit Diesel 8V-92TA

In a 30 Scarab???

Any special reason ? sounds foolish

30ftpanther 04-17-2013 03:38 PM

That would be wild a 6 1/2 foot long 5000# engine in a 30footer it would resemble a fountain at the dock, ya know with the transom submerged.:helmet: Is it ok to say f word on here?:poopoo: Just kidding. When I was boat shopping it was a fountain or a scarab, I bought the tank.

C'mon guys!!! you have to have some imagination, the plan is to use a CVT gearbox and two sterndrives, that should give a nice 40 knots cruising speed at 1000 rpm and most important of all you should always exaggerate a bit if you have a chans because its fun!

well... anything can be made to do anything with enough time money and a good chainsaw but unless you got this motor for free along with everything else, why do you want to reinvent the wheel ? just bored this week ?

I think 73 weed eater motors would work better

8-92 isn't exactly a fuel efficient powerhouse. Especially not enough to offset its size and weight in this application.

bgeiger 04-22-2013 03:29 PM

You are right about that but if you want a modern diesel engine you have to pay like 50 000 euros for one, a 8V-92TA you can almost get for free
but it's probably a stupid idea anyway so i just have to come up with a new plan

any ideas???????????
