holley commnder 950 efi
 

does anyone have experiance with the holley commander 950 efi setups in a boat? i have one on the way and am debating if this is going on the boat or into a car. the system appears to be complete with everything down to the pump. sounds like it is easy to tune on a laptop.

The commander 950 is an older system that requires a lot more manual tuning. It is more user friendly then a Mefi system and has better resolution, but is no where near as easy and user friendly as the newer HP version. I believe Jeffswav on here has it on his boat. It is a durable system and was widely used in hardcore off-road, and sand vehicles. You could also use the throttle body and buy a new HP ecu and harness.

I have read that if I add the O2 sensor upgrade to it with the new firmware that it is much easier to tune and may even auto tune it self for the most part. I can get the upgrade for under 300 bucks, the new HP computer and harness is 1500. if the 950 is not a good option I may go that route. I asked jeff about his a while back but did not get much info, I hope he chimes in because I think his build was very similar to what I am building.

Yes, if it doesn't already have the wide band you'll want to upgrade it. Once the base map is close, the wide band will help you dial it right in. I've converted a couple to the HP's, I'll ask if one of my customers wants to sell their wide band adapter cheap. If you want to upgrade to the HP, I can get you a better deal then that too.

I guess my biggest question is if I do add the O2 upgrade to it will I be able to get running fairly easy or is it going to be a total pain in the rear? from the little I have been able to dig up on the unit, I have read that if I can get the base tune close enough to start it that the unit should tune it self as you mentioned. If you are able to find the O2 parts for cheap I am very interested, this is a budget build. without the o2 upgrade I don't think this would be a good option. this is going to be on a n/a engine with at best 600hp
