Through Hull Water Pickups ?

I am working on the installation of my super chillers. I want to install dedicated water pickups. Teague has a wide selection of pickups. Since the motors are in the boat getting down to the bottom of the transom to seal the pickups and attach the hoses would take an act of congress I am looking at the thru hull pickups. My question is how far forward would I be able to put them and still have them be effective in picking up water when on plane? Would 2 to 3 feet forward of the transom work?

We used the Stainless Marine thru hull water P/U's. IMO, these P/U's need to be cut-in and glassed in the hull. I would not see how you can correctly do the installation without pulling the engines. You should also consider installing in line water cut offs. This is a better winter project..

Since accessability is an issue why not plumb into the raw water pickups for the main seawater pumps. Until you have access to the bottom/transom with the engines out you really are limited. I think you might not get the water flow you need at speed if the boat is only on the back pad.
