hatch actuators
 
i have a formula 242 ls and was thinking of using someting like this to lift the engine hatch. anyboy done this?

Sure, but you'll need a heavy duty model.

Figure out where you want to mount it, and then cut a piece of dowel rod and put a set of scales in the bilge where you plan to mount the bottom bracket and lay the hatch onto the dowel where you plan to attach the top bracket and weigh the amount of force you'll need to be moving.

Then measure the length of the dowel that will allow the hatch to completely close, and then open the hatch to where you want it to open and measure to the bracket location. That difference will be the necessary stroke.
