Oil pan help!!!!

Guys, I need some help...
Just put a larger capacity GM perf parts 8 qt. oil pan on my engine to increase the heat disipating capacity of the oil (same pan Merc uses). The pan did not come with a dip stick or tube and I've found it impossible to locate one anywhere (no GM dealer lists them). Worst case, I take my stick/tube from the 6 qt. pan, mark the full level when installed in 8 qt. pan, scribe new full/ add marks, then grind off. Would really rather use correct set -up as I believe the new tube will have an o-ring around the pan fitting rather than a gob of rtv. Any suggestions????

Thanks,
Zack

PS in a hurry - installed engine last night and wired. Will install exhaust, then splash

The tube I used is the one that you can suck out the oil and it runs foward and comes out by the front of the starbord head merc # 818631A6

FS,

This new pan has the oil pan bung on the port side and further aft than the 6 qt. Is that Merc # for an 8 qt pan?

My eight has it on the starbord side:cool:

I recently replaced a merc 260 with engine with one that had a 8 qt pan with 3/8" drain plugs on sides and front. Solved the dip stick problem using the front hole with 3/8 nipple, tee and 3/8 NPT male to 3/8 copper adapter pointing at the bottom starboard edge of the pan. The front of the tee was plugged as an accessory port.

Ran a 3/8 copper tube with minor bends up between the circuit breaker bracket and the front of the starboard manifold Secured it there with a wide sheet metal bracket that had the profile of a cotter pin. A hole 3/8" hole in the bracket lined up with the bolt from the alternator bracket.

For oil draining slipped on a 3/4" thread garden hose male repair fitting for 1/2" hose that had a 3/8" ID. Actually I found it easier to just slip a 3/8" hose from the drain pump over the top of the tube.

Any Mercruiser dealer should be able to get you a dip stick, and tube.
