Can this distributor & coil be used on a carbed engine?

I have the wiring harness & ignition system from my 2000 502MPI set up as pictured. Can this system be used on a carbureted engine? If so how do I wire it, if not I need to find a harness & ignition that will work. Thanks in advance for any help. Randy

sure can, just add switched 12v to the red wire and your tach to the brown wire on the coil.If you have the other connector for the coil its a matter of splicing the wires.

I may be wrong but I dont think that dist has a mechanical advance built into it as the computer controlled the timing. if you run it the timing will be locked at what ever you set it to at idle.

no,but it has a nice built in advance that a fail safe and works great all by itself.12 degrees advance if I remember right.

Sounds like I would be better off finding another distributor. Compedge marine is correct there is no mechanical advance & even with built in 12 degrees that still isn't going to make it run correctly will it? I was hoping there was an aftermarket module that would plug into the distributor to control advance in place of the computer.

again, the advance is built into the ignition module.I run these distr. in 650hp 540's.

It would be easier and cleaner to just find a complete TB IV ignition than to mess with trying to make the TB V work.

I would agree, if anyone has one gathering dust I would be interested. Randy

I think thats gm hei set up from new set ups.Like the ones in trucks from 91-95.
doesn't get any cleaner than splicing 2 wires into the coil plug. Then only 2 wire going to the distributor.
Remember this, this distributor can operate as an ecu controlled or stand alone unit.
merc does this w/ their 4cyl and some 350 apps. And like I said,I have done this on more than a few engines.

I'll give you a call an explain it to you.Its very simple install and more than clean.Plus you can get coils and ignition modules from NAPA.
