320EFI timing mode. HELP!
I have twin 320's in my Formula 272 and one just seems to be running a little flat. Before I go accusing my cam I would like to put it into timing mode to check that. I had a Baja 272 with a 502 that you could jump two wires on the plug to get the job done.
On the 320's I know there is a open wire near the front of the plenum that is the "timing wire". My guess is that the wire needs to be grounded to put it into service mode. Unfortunately I can't find anything that gives me a good answer and every boat shop I call wants me to bring it in for them to do.... I am more than capable of timing my own motor, thanks. Just someone please help me get it into service mode! |
Someone has to know something about these motors I hope!!

We spoke on the phone the other day, I,m from LI, anyway ground that red/yellow wire to the right of the thermostat housing. After the engine is at operating temp then set the timing. I do have the original mercruiser manual, I will dig it up and try to send you a pic to your cell

Not to be a smartass .But instead of you calling all these places looking for an answer .You said you were capable of your own work ..Are you capable of buying a service manual for your motor ..Anything I own ,my first step is to acquire a proper service manual for same. The manual might actually keep you from getting frustrated trying to find an answer to your next question...Simple .

Motor I agree with you about buying the OEM Service manual and believe it or not, I could not even tell you how many shops and small boat repair shops do not have the service manuals for the stuff they take in to work on. I could never understand this especially from them whom make a living at it.
