On something like this, how are you guys securing this to the bilge? Do you use screws or a different way?

You got to be joking. The entire kit is under 10 bucks, and in the 15 years since they've been out I've seen about 2 or 3 broken. You want something better, don't buy a cheap plastic battery tray .
I've broken 3 of these bolts in 2 years.. the boat had these trays in it when i bought it, trust me they would not have been my first choice. in a battery tray.... the bolts are molded like garbage, they have porosity in them thats why they break so easily....
